The Nigerian Army has achieved a remarkable feat, recording zero incidents of pipeline vandalism in 2025, a significant improvement from previous years. This accomplishment is attributed to sustained military operations, intelligence-led patrols, and collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders in the Niger Delta region .
The success has contributed to a surge in national oil production, increasing from 1.4 million barrels per day to 2.2 million barrels per day. The army’s efforts have also led to the dismantling of numerous illegal refineries, mostly sourced from abandoned oil wells, and curbing the patronage of stolen oil products.
Major General Emmanuel Eric Emeka, Land Component Commander of Operation Delta Safe and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, stated that the feat was achieved through continuous community engagement and mediation between host communities and international oil companies, addressing grievances and preventing disruptions to oil and gas operations.
The army has also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, reiterating commitment to these values. The media is seen as a partner in progress, playing a crucial role in conveying the right narrative and supporting democratic accountability.
Most oil leakages recorded in the region are linked to ageing infrastructure rather than sabotage, and incidents are promptly reported to relevant oil companies for corrective action. The army is working to upgrade facilities and prevent accidents
