President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have paid tribute to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), on his 84th birthday, describing him as “one of our nation’s greatest gifts” and a spiritual fortress interceding for Nigeria and its people to God Almighty .
In a joint statement, the presidential couple praised Adeboye’s humility, wisdom, and enduring leadership, noting that his contributions extend beyond the pulpit to philanthropy, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. They acknowledged his unique leadership role, stating that his teachings over the past five decades have continued to shape and transform lives across generations in Nigeria and beyond .
The Tinubus also commended Adeboye’s unceasing prayers for Nigeria, his patriotic zeal, and commitment to the nation’s progress. They expressed gratitude to God for Adeboye’s exceptional life of impact that transcends cultures and borders.
Adeboye, born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State, holds a doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He joined the RCCG in 1973 and became General Overseer in 1981, succeeding the church’s founder, Pastor Josiah Akindayomi.
Under Adeboye’s leadership, the RCCG has grown from a small congregation in Lagos to one of the world’s largest Pentecostal denominations, with parishes in over 190 countries. The church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, held at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, regularly attracts millions of worshippers.
Adeboye has established the Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State, and overseen numerous educational and healthcare initiatives through the church’s various foundations. His legacy is a testament to his dedication to faith, academic excellence, and significant contributions to society.
The presidential couple prayed that God Almighty continue to bless Adeboye with good health and strength as he continues his good work in the Lord’s vineyard .
