Access Bank Plc has refuted a social media message claiming that the bank would shut down its operations, describing the notice as false, misleading, and the work of impersonators.
In a statement signed by the bank’s management and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), Access Bank said the circulating message was created by mischief makers who falsely used the bank’s identity to mislead members of the public.
The financial institution urged customers and stakeholders to disregard the fake notice and rely only on verified information shared through its official communication channels.
The bank assured customers, partners, and the general public that it remains financially stable, fully operational, and committed to delivering quality banking services across all its subsidiaries.
Access Bank also disclosed that it is working with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the false publication, adding that appropriate legal measures would be taken against the perpetrators.
The bank further warned that the creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing public panic, damaging reputations, or undermining confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
It advised members of the public who receive such misleading messages not to share or forward them but instead verify information through Access Bank’s official and verified platforms.
Access Bank thanked its customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence in the institution.
