Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged couples participating in the 2026 Kano mass wedding programme to build lasting homes founded on trust, patience, mutual respect and the fear of Allah.
The governor gave the charge during an orientation programme organised for intending couples by the Kano State Hisbah Board as part of preparations for the mass wedding ceremony.
Represented by the Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Yusuf described marriage as a sacred institution that requires commitment, compassion and understanding from both partners.
He advised the couples to remain faithful to each other, handle disagreements through peaceful dialogue and respect their responsibilities and obligations within the family.
The governor stressed that strong marriages are built through cooperation and tolerance, urging the intending couples to prioritise unity and peaceful coexistence in their homes.
The orientation programme featured presentations from Islamic scholars and professionals who educated participants on various aspects of marital life.
Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar delivered a lecture on “The Wisdom of Marriage in Islam,” while Prof. Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira spoke on the rights and responsibilities of spouses.
Also, Sheikh Muhammad Nur Arzai guided participants on peaceful conflict resolution and maintaining harmony in marriage according to Islamic principles.
As part of the state government’s support for the couples, each groom will receive 10 yards of Shedda fabric, a cap, a bag of rice and a jerrycan of cooking oil.
Each bride will receive N200,000 to support dowry and business start-up, alongside household items including a bed, mattress, wardrobe, dressing mirror, blankets, bed sheets and a centre rug.
The mass wedding programme is expected to unite 1,500 couples, with the marriage solemnisation scheduled to take place on Friday at the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kano metropolis and simultaneously across all 44 local government areas of the state.
