Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday a work-free day for public servants across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The directive, contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, is aimed at giving workers time to travel where necessary and prepare to participate in the election.
The circular, made public by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, stated that the directive applies to all categories of public workers, except those assigned to essential and emergency duties.
Ahead of the election, Adeleke urged workers, as well as their relatives and friends, to come out in large numbers to exercise their voting rights and protect their votes.
The governor also commended the state’s workforce and labour leadership for their support, noting the cordial relationship between his administration and public servants.
Adeleke urged workers to mobilise other groups, including artisans, informal workers and professional bodies, to participate actively in the electoral process.
He said his administration had maintained a worker-friendly government and called on residents to protect what he described as the gains recorded over the past three and a half years.
