Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence in winning the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Adeleke spoke shortly after casting his ballot at Polling Unit 009, Ward 02, Sagba, in Ede North Local Government Area on Saturday.
The governor arrived at the polling unit at about 8:30 a.m. and completed the accreditation and voting processes shortly afterwards.
Speaking to journalists after voting, Adeleke described the situation at his polling unit as peaceful and expressed hope that the atmosphere would remain calm throughout the election.
He urged residents across the state to come out and exercise their civic rights, while calling on voters to remain peaceful and vigilant during voting and the collation of results.
Adeleke, however, raised concerns over alleged disruptions in some parts of the state. He called on security agencies to remain neutral and ensure that voters are able to cast their ballots without intimidation.
The governor also alleged that there were attempts to manipulate the election and called on relevant authorities to investigate the concerns raised. The allegations had not been independently established at the time of reporting.
Despite the concerns, Adeleke expressed optimism that the election would be peaceful, credible and reflective of the will of the people.
He said the election provides the people of Osun with an opportunity to determine who will govern the state for the next four years.
The governor also appealed to supporters of the Accord Party and other political parties to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election. He urged voters to respect the electoral process and allow officials to carry out their duties without interference.
As voting continues across the state, attention is expected to shift to the counting and collation of results, with political parties, observers and residents closely monitoring the process.
The final outcome will be determined by the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke concluded by expressing confidence in his chances of victory, saying he had the support of the people.
“I will win this election,” the governor declared after casting his ballot.
