The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, has sympathised with traders and residents affected by the devastating fire outbreak that occurred at Oranyan Market, Ibadan.
In a statement following the incident, Lawal described the fire disaster as a painful setback that has disrupted the businesses and livelihoods of many traders, leaving several families in distress.
The Acting Governor assured victims that the Oyo State Government would provide necessary support and stand by them during the recovery process.
He disclosed that emergency response teams had been deployed to assess the extent of the damage, while immediate relief efforts were being coordinated to assist those affected by the inferno.
Lawal further stated that the government was committed to restoring the affected sections of the market and introducing preventive measures to reduce the chances of future fire outbreaks.
He commended the prompt response of the Oyo State Fire Service and security agencies for their efforts in managing the situation, while urging traders and residents to remain calm and optimistic.
The Acting Governor said the government shares in the pain of traders who lost their goods and sources of livelihood, assuring them that relevant agencies were working together to evaluate the damage and provide support.
He added that beyond the immediate intervention, the government would implement measures aimed at rebuilding the market and ensuring improved safety standards for traders and businesses.
The fire outbreak at Oranyan Market, one of Ibadan’s major commercial centres, affected several shops and raised renewed concerns about the need for stronger fire prevention measures in public markets across the state.
