Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former National Vice Chairman of the party for the South-South zone, has died at the age of 64.
Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family on Tuesday and signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih.
The family announced his death with “profound sadness and a heavy heart,” describing the deceased as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle.
Orbih was a prominent figure in Edo State politics and played a significant role in the affairs of the PDP in the state and across the South-South region. He previously served as Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the party and later became its National Vice Chairman for the South-South.
He was also known as a close political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Wike, in a condolence message, described Orbih as a true friend and committed political associate, saying his death was a painful loss to Edo State’s political community.
“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally,” Wike said, describing Orbih as a good friend, a great politician and a man of faith.
The late politician was also involved in the administration of tertiary institutions. In 2024, he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, by the Edo State Government.
Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih; his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih; as well as his brothers, sisters and other members of his extended family.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the loss.
Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
