A former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has predicted victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Adedayo, who previously served as a local government chairman under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, would defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
He made the remarks on Monday night while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
According to Adedayo, the political situation in Ogun State has changed significantly, with the APC allegedly losing support across the state.
“The way things are going now, APC is gone in Ogun State,” he said, predicting what he described as “seismic changes” in the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 election.
The former council chairman claimed that the PDP had gained momentum across the state’s 20 local government areas and 236 wards, adding that some political stakeholders were already moving towards the opposition party.
Adedayo further expressed confidence in Adebutu’s chances, saying the PDP candidate would defeat Yayi “hands down” at the polls.
He also argued that the forthcoming election would be influenced by changing political alignments and the choices made by voters across the state.
On the issue of zoning and political representation, Adedayo said Ijebu people had previously supported candidates from Ogun West and argued that the current political circumstances had created an opportunity for Adebutu to seek the governorship.
He maintained that his position was not against zoning but rather centred on what he described as the need for fairness and proper representation.
Adedayo also questioned Yayi’s claim to Ogun State indigene status and called on the APC candidate to clarify his ancestry. These allegations were presented as Adedayo’s personal claims and were not independently established by the reports reviewed.
The former council chairman further urged voters to pay close attention to the backgrounds and records of candidates before making their choices in the election.
He stressed that an informed electorate was essential to a functioning democracy, noting that voters should make decisions based on adequate knowledge of the candidates and their political programmes.
The 2027 Ogun governorship race is expected to attract significant political attention as major parties continue to mobilise support ahead of the election.
While Adedayo is confident that the PDP can unseat the ruling APC, the outcome of the election will ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
