The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has endorsed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for a second term, citing his administration’s efforts to improve the state’s transport sector and infrastructure.
The union also honoured Lawal with an Award of Excellence during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Dome Pavilion, Government House, Gusau.
The NURTW delegation was led by its Board Chairman, Dr Najeem Usman Yasin, and included the union’s National President, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as well as other senior officials.
Speaking during the event, Governor Lawal said the recognition and endorsement reflected the growing cooperation between his administration and the transport sector.
He expressed appreciation to the NURTW leadership and described the award as recognition of his administration’s efforts to improve transportation and other areas of development in the state.
Lawal recalled that his administration had distributed 50 subsidised mass-transit vehicles to NURTW members as part of efforts to improve their livelihoods and public transportation.
He also highlighted the renovation of the Zamfara State NURTW Council Secretariat, saying the initiative was aimed at providing transport workers with a more suitable working environment.
Earlier, Yasin said the union’s leadership had reviewed the governor’s achievements during his three years in office and decided to recognise his administration.
He described Lawal as a “gift to Zamfara State” and commended what he described as improvements recorded under the governor’s administration.
Yasin subsequently announced the union’s endorsement of Lawal for re-election in 2027 and called on NURTW members to support his bid for a second term.
The endorsement comes as Zamfara State prepares to mark 30 years since its creation on October 1, 2026.
