The Lagos State Government has provided 2,000 Cowry Cards to the Lagos State Police Command as part of efforts to support the transportation needs of police officers serving across the state.
The cards were presented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, psc, fdc, mspsp, MNIM, FCAI.
The initiative, under the Lagos State Government’s transportation support programme, will enable 2,000 police personnel to enjoy free rides for three months on designated state-owned transport services, including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Electric Boats, Blue Line and Red Line rail services.
After the three-month free transport period, beneficiaries will continue to enjoy a 50 per cent discount on fares.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Akpanudom appreciated Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the gesture and his continued support towards improving police welfare through various interventions.
He said the initiative would reduce the transportation challenges faced by officers, boost their morale, and strengthen the existing partnership between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in promoting security, public safety and good governance.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, assured that the Cowry Cards would be distributed to deserving officers through a transparent process and used strictly for their intended purpose.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and effective deployment of available resources towards ensuring a safer Lagos for residents.
