According to police, the victim’s brother alerted authorities after receiving the ransom demand. Officers subsequently used the vehicle’s tracking device to locate the driver at Southampton Road in Heathfield.
The five suspects, comprising two women and three men, were arrested in connection with the incident and are expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
