The St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association has honoured the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his career in public service and contributions to policing in Nigeria.
Disu received the honour on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during a grand reception organised by the association in Lagos. He was honoured alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso, as the association celebrated distinguished old boys for their contributions to national service and leadership.
The award recognised Disu’s more than three decades of service in the Nigeria Police Force, covering frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping and senior command responsibilities.
A former student of St. Gregory’s College, Disu completed his secondary education at the institution in 1985 before joining the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992.
Over the course of his career, he has held several key positions, including Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police, among other senior assignments.
He was appointed the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.
The Old Boys Association also recognised his focus on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability, personnel welfare, community engagement and the use of technology to strengthen public safety.
Reacting to the recognition, Disu expressed appreciation to the association, describing the honour from his alma mater as particularly significant.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Nigeria with integrity and to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force as a professional, accountable and people-centred institution.
The recognition also highlighted the role of education, mentorship and strong institutional values in shaping individuals who go on to contribute to public service and national development.
