Fidelity Bank Plc has extended food assistance to more than 1,500 vulnerable residents of Kpaduma II Community in Abuja as part of its efforts to support underserved communities and contribute to the fight against food insecurity in Nigeria.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, with beneficiaries receiving food packages containing enough supplies to provide meals for a family of at least five.
Speaking at the outreach, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was aimed at providing immediate assistance to households facing hardship while giving them the opportunity to concentrate on improving their livelihoods.
Nwagboh explained that Kpaduma II was selected because, despite its location within the Federal Capital Territory, the community remains underserved and has families in need of basic support.
He said meeting people’s nutritional needs could help reduce the pressure on vulnerable households and give them renewed hope to pursue their aspirations.
According to him, the intervention was not simply about distributing food, but also about giving beneficiaries encouragement to remain focused on building better lives. Nwagboh disclosed that the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, which was launched in April 2023, has so far reached more than 300 communities across Nigeria. He listed communities around Mararaba and Mabushi among previous beneficiaries, adding that the bank intends to extend the programme to more communities across different states and regions.
Also speaking, the Regional Bank Head, Abuja III, Fidelity Bank Plc, Martin Ayodele, said the bank understands the importance of community wellbeing to sustainable development.
Ayodele said the Kpaduma II intervention reflects Fidelity Bank’s broader commitment to providing practical support to vulnerable households and creating meaningful impact in communities where it operates.
The outreach was organised in partnership with the Abbasid Foundation.
The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the foundation, Hajia Hauwa Abbas, said its partnership with Fidelity Bank had facilitated similar food interventions in several parts of the country, including Benue, Sokoto, Yobe and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Chief of Kpaduma II, Chief Samson Auta, commended Fidelity Bank for bringing the intervention to the community.
Auta said the support would provide significant relief to residents, particularly families struggling to meet their daily feeding needs, while expressing hope that the partnership would continue.
Some beneficiaries, including Rose Isa and Helen John, also appreciated the bank for the assistance, noting that the food packages would help reduce the pressure of feeding their families.
The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative is part of Fidelity Bank’s wider sustainability and corporate social responsibility efforts, through which the financial institution implements targeted programmes aimed at supporting livelihoods and promoting social development across Nigeria.
