Another batch of 105 Nigerians has returned home from South Africa through a humanitarian repatriation initiative supported by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
The returnees, comprising 55 adults, 45 children and five infants, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday night.
Their arrival brings to 205 the number of Nigerians returned to the country through the RCCG-supported intervention, following the arrival of an earlier batch of 100 Nigerians on September 24.
The church had pledged to support the return of 500 distressed Nigerians from South Africa, with the repatriation being carried out in batches after the necessary profiling and documentation.
Pastor Belemina Obunge, Chairman of the RCCG Task Force overseeing the repatriation exercise and Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Special Duties, said the initiative was a humanitarian contribution to efforts to assist Nigerians stranded or facing difficult circumstances in South Africa.
He said the beneficiaries were Nigerians who had undergone the required profiling and documentation through the relevant authorities.
The RCCG intervention is expected to facilitate the return of about 295 more Nigerians, subject to the completion of the necessary documentation and clearance procedures.
Some of the returnees expressed relief and happiness at arriving safely in Nigeria, describing their return as an opportunity to begin a new chapter back home.
