The Rotary Club of Lagos Festac Cosmopolitan has donated two sets of bands and various sanitation materials to two primary schools in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of its commitment to improving learning environments and promoting hygiene among pupils.
The beneficiaries are Ideal Nursery and Primary School and New Town Nursery and Primary School, both located along 3rd Avenue, Festac Town.
The donation, carried out under the club’s 2026/2027 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Project, included waste bins, brooms, buckets, mop sticks, hand brushes, hand towels, toilet brushes, hand gloves, air fresheners and toilet cleaning products, among other items.
Presenting the materials, the President of the club, Nnaemeka Mekah, explained that the decision to provide the bands followed a discovery that the schools lacked the equipment needed to support their morning assembly activities.
He said the club also recognised the importance of maintaining a clean school environment and encouraging pupils to develop good hygiene habits from an early age.
Mekah noted that the Rotary Club had maintained a longstanding relationship with both schools, having previously supported their educational needs by equipping the library and donating books.
According to him, the latest intervention followed a request made during an earlier visit when the school authorities highlighted their need for bands.
He explained that the donation was intended to improve morning assemblies, encourage participation in extracurricular activities and promote a culture of cleanliness among pupils.
Responding, the Head Teacher of New Town Nursery and Primary School, Mrs Salami Modupe Debora, expressed gratitude to the club for responding to the school’s request.
She explained that the school did not have a band when she assumed duty and said the new equipment would make morning assemblies more lively and engaging.
Debora commended the Rotarians for listening to the school’s concerns and supporting the pupils, adding that their intervention had brought joy to the children.
Similarly, the Head Teacher of Ideal Nursery and Primary School, Agbelemo Joshua Babatunde, praised the club for its continued support, describing the donation as another demonstration of its commitment to the welfare and development of the pupils.
He noted that the bands would help stimulate pupils’ interest in extracurricular activities and thanked the club for remembering the school.
A Primary Five pupil of Ideal Nursery and Primary School, Onwuebusi Kosisochukwu, also expressed appreciation on behalf of her schoolmates, thanking the Rotarians for the gifts and praying for their continued success.
Helen Obhahie, who spoke on behalf of New Town Nursery and Primary School, similarly appreciated the donation of the bands and sanitation materials, as well as the club’s previous contributions to the school.
The presentation ceremony featured a demonstration by pupils, who displayed their band-playing skills to the admiration of the school management and members of the Rotary Club.
The intervention underscores the importance of partnerships between service organisations and educational institutions in providing essential learning resources, improving school hygiene and creating a more supportive environment for children’s development.
