Fidelity Bank Plc has reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience through its partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and the Lagos State Government at the 20th edition of the Walk for Nature in Lagos.
The event, held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, was themed “Inspired for Climate Action” and focused on promoting environmental education, community participation and conservation efforts.
Speaking at the event, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, described the 20th anniversary of the initiative as evidence of the importance of sustained partnerships in promoting environmental protection and responsible practices.
He said environmental sustainability remained central to building resilient communities and supporting long-term economic growth, adding that the bank’s commitment extended to practical interventions in clean energy, environmental awareness and responsible resource management.
Nwagboh highlighted the bank’s support for renewable energy, tree-planting programmes, recycling initiatives, environmental education and community beautification projects.
He also called on individuals to translate environmental awareness into concrete actions, including reducing waste, conserving resources, planting trees and embracing sustainable lifestyles.
He commended the NCF and the Lagos State Government for their continued collaboration, stressing that addressing environmental challenges required sustained contributions from both public and private sector stakeholders.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen, emphasised the need to protect wetlands, mangroves and waterways to minimise flooding risks.
He disclosed that the state government planned to plant 20,000 trees in 2026 as part of efforts to improve environmental quality and strengthen urban resilience.
Tajudeen also urged residents to take responsibility for environmental protection through proper waste disposal and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices.
