President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja, Nigeria, after a two-week diplomatic trip to Saint Lucia and Brazil. The trip, which began on June 28, 2025, was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations and promoting South-South cooperation.
During his visit to Saint Lucia, President Tinubu addressed a joint session of the Caribbean nation’s parliament, highlighting the importance of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Saint Lucia. He emphasized the need for mutual cooperation and collaboration between nations to address common challenges and promote economic development.
In recognition of his contributions to international relations, President Tinubu was conferred with the country’s highest honor, Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL). This prestigious award underscores his commitment to fostering stronger relationships between nations and promoting global cooperation.
Following his successful visit to Saint Lucia, President Tinubu traveled to Brazil to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit. The summit provided a platform for Tinubu to engage with world leaders and discuss issues of global importance, including economic cooperation, sustainable development, and security.
During the summit, President Tinubu advocated for the inclusion of low-income economies in global decision-making processes. He emphasized the need for a more inclusive and equitable global economic system that addresses the needs and concerns of all nations, regardless of their economic status.
Tinubu’s return to Nigeria on July 13, 2025, marks the end of his diplomatic tour, which aimed to foster stronger relationships between Nigeria and other nations. Upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, President Tinubu was welcomed back by a high-powered government delegation, including Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku, and Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle.
The successful trip demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to diplomacy and international cooperation, and his efforts to promote Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
