Over 32,000 members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, throwing their support behind Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the APC’s gubernatorial flagbearer for the November 8, 2025 election. This mass defection is seen as a significant boost to Ukachukwu’s campaign.
The defecting APGA members, led by Dr. Kingsley Ezekwelu, founder of the Sustenance of Faith in Governance (SOFIG) group, cited betrayal by APGA as the reason for their departure.
SOFIG donated N150 million to support Ukachukwu’s campaign, which was raised through contributions from individuals and local government chapters of the group.
Ukachukwu emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, urging SOFIG members to spread his message from house to house, kindred to kindred, and village to village.
The APC candidate received endorsements from over 5,000 former appointees of the Anambra State Government, who joined APC and expressed enthusiasm for Ukachukwu’s gubernatorial ambition.
Some observers see this development as a sign of potential upset in the Anambra governorship election, while others believe incumbent Governor Soludo will still emerge victorious.
Critics have questioned the motivations behind the donations, suggesting they may be business investments rather than genuine support.
