Six Super Eagles players, including William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo, have donated N24 million to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team. Each player contributed N1 million to every member of the 24-player Falcons squad as a token of appreciation for their historic win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Falcons made history by winning their 10th WAFCON title after a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final. The team’s victory was celebrated with grand rewards, including national honors, cash prizes, and other incentives. Each player and member of the technical crew was conferred with the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by President Bola Tinubu.
The players also received significant cash rewards, with each player getting the Naira equivalent of $100,000 and the technical staff receiving $50,000 each. Furthermore, each player and official was awarded a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate in the Federal Capital Territory. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum also pledged N10 million each to the players and technical staff members.
The Super Eagles players’ donation is a testament to the unity and solidarity between Nigeria’s senior national teams.
