Russia has reacted to US President Donald Trump’s 10-day ultimatum to end the Ukraine war, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressing skepticism about the threat of new sanctions. Peskov stated that Russia has developed “immunity” to sanctions after years of living under heavy restrictions and doesn’t fear punitive measures. Russia views such rhetoric as part of the broader Western narrative aimed at isolating and weakening Moscow.
The Kremlin has downplayed Trump’s warning, saying that Russia is no longer significantly affected by the threat of additional sanctions. Peskov emphasized that Russia is interested in rebuilding ties with the US but believes the normalization process is proceeding sluggishly. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev described Trump’s ultimatum as “a step towards war,” warning that such threats could escalate tensions between Russia and the US .
Medvedev cautioned that Trump should remember that Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran and that each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war, not between Russia and Ukraine, but with the US itself. Trump had given Russia 50 days to end the conflict, but he reduced the deadline to 10-12 days, citing a lack of progress toward peace.
Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating he’s “not so interested in talking to him anymore.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Trump’s stance, thanking him for his “clear stance and expressed determination” to resolve the conflict. The situation remains tense, with both sides dug in and unwilling to back down.
