The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) carried out precision airstrikes on August 23, 2025, killing over 35 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists near the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Borno State. The terrorists had gathered to launch an attack on ground troops stationed at Kumshe, prompting the NAF to execute successive strikes at four identified assembly areas. The airstrikes targeted terrorist gathering points near the border, disrupting their plans and dealing a significant blow to their operations.
The NAF’s operation was a testament to its commitment to sustaining aggressive and intelligence-driven air operations. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, commended the aircrew for their professionalism and reaffirmed the NAF’s dedication to ensuring the complete degradation of terrorist elements threatening Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The Northeast region has been experiencing frequent attacks from jihadist fighters, including Boko Haram and ISWAP. The NAF’s recent operation demonstrates its efforts to provide close air support to ground forces and the broader strategy to dismantle terrorist networks in the region. Ground troops confirmed that the situation around their location had stabilized after the operation, highlighting the effectiveness of the NAF’s intervention.
The NAF’s continued efforts to target terrorist hideouts and disrupt their operations have been crucial in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria. The success of this operation underscores the importance of intelligence gathering and precision strikes in neutralizing terrorist threats. As the military continues to intensify its operations, the NAF’s role in supporting ground troops and securing the region remains vital.
