The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers accused of killing two victims after collecting a total ransom of N10.4 million. The suspects, identified as Hassan Mohammed, 20, from Adamawa State, Bello Abubakar, 25, from Sokoto State, and Yusuf Ahmed, 23, from Bauchi State, were apprehended on September 19, 2025.
The police received a distress call regarding the abduction of Humphrey Wagbara in Igwuruta-Atali, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. Acting on intelligence, operatives launched a coordinated operation, resulting in the arrest of the suspects at different hideouts.
The suspects confessed to their involvement in several kidnappings, including the abduction of Onwuli Jude and Nwabueze Nchekwube, where they collected a ransom of N6.9 million before killing Nchekwube. They also admitted to kidnapping Mercy Chinyere, collecting a ransom of N3.5 million before releasing her.
Items recovered from the suspects include a G-3 rifle with breech number 10398, one magazine, an Itel phone belonging to victim Humphrey Wagbara, three short daggers, one jack knife, and one stainless short knife.
The police are holding the suspects and recovered items while efforts continue to track down other fleeing members and recover additional operational weapons. Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their bravery and urged residents to report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
