Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after beating Algeria 2-0 in the quarter-finals. The match was played at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Marrakesh, Morocco .
Victor Osimhen opened the scoring for Nigeria just after half-time, heading in a long cross from Bruno Onyemaechi. Algeria’s goalkeeper, Luca Zidane, made a bizarre jump, getting his angles wrong and conceding an easy goal. Akor Adams doubled Nigeria’s lead 10 minutes later, taking a pass from Osimhen and rounding Zidane before placing the ball into an empty net.
Nigeria dominated the game, with Algeria struggling to create chances. The Super Eagles’ victory sets up a semi-final clash with hosts Morocco. Algeria, on the other hand, were impressive in their 1-0 win over DR Congo in extra time, but couldn’t replicate that form against Nigeria .
The win marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, who are looking to bounce back from missing out on World Cup qualification. The team’s determination and teamwork were evident throughout the match, and they proved to be too strong for Algeria .
Nigeria’s next match will be against Morocco, who are looking to make it to the final on home soil. The Moroccans have been impressive so far in the tournament, and Nigeria will need to be at their best to progress.The AFCON 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting tournament, with several strong teams vying for the top spot.
