Lagos State Deputy Governor *Kadri Obafemi Hamzat* won the All Progressives Congress governorship primary for the 2027 election with *657,917 votes.
The returning officer, retired General Jonathan Temlong, announced the result at the APC Secretariat in Ikeja on May 21, 2026. He said 657,974 voters were accredited, meaning Hamzat’s challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, got just 1 vote. The exercise was held across all 245 wards in Lagos’ 20 LGAs and was described as peaceful and transparent.
Hamzat swept every LGA. The biggest tallies came from Alimosho with 74,501 votes, Ikorodu with 55,148, Kosofe with 51,600, and Lagos Mainland with 49,079. Even smaller LGAs like Apapa and Agege gave him 5,430 and 16,257 votes respectively.
The win followed weeks of endorsements from key APC structures in Lagos. The Governance Advisory Council adopted Hamzat as consensus candidate in late April, and President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other party leaders backed him. Two other aspirants, Abdul-Azeez Adediran and Samuel Ajose, withdrew before the primary. 3e99ef45[Jandor]
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat thanked Tinubu, APC leaders, and party members for the trust placed in him. He pledged to sustain the developmental strides of the APC government in Lagos and promised inclusive governance if elected in 2027.
Party chairman Cornelius Ojelabi said the smooth conduct of the primary reflected APC’s unity and strength ahead of the 2027 general elections. INEC officials were present to monitor the process. e257d770
