The transaction, regarded as Africa’s largest publicly disclosed primary equity private placement, marks a defining moment in the company’s history and reflects strong investor confidence in the refinery’s long-term growth strategy and operational performance. It also represents DPRP’s first equity funding round involving external investors beyond its founding shareholder base, highlighting the company’s growing appeal as a globally competitive energy and industrial enterprise.
The newly raised capital will be deployed to accelerate the expansion of the refinery and petrochemical complex, reinforce the company’s capital structure, and provide greater financial flexibility to pursue future strategic growth opportunities.
The offering attracted significant interest from a broad spectrum of international and African institutional investors, sovereign-backed investment vehicles, development finance institutions, strategic partners, and high-net-worth individuals. Among the notable investors were the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and India Infra Buildco, an investment platform facilitated by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), underscoring widespread confidence in DPRP’s long-term prospects.
Commenting on the milestone, Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited and Chairman of DPRP, described the equity placement as a pivotal step in the company’s growth journey.
“This transaction represents a strategic move to broaden and institutionalise our shareholder base while raising additional capital to complement our internal cash generation and existing financing arrangements as we continue executing our expansion plans.
“It also reflects our unwavering commitment to strengthening Africa’s refining and petrochemical capacity, reducing dependence on imported petroleum products, and enhancing the continent’s energy security.”
Also speaking, David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, said the overwhelming investor response validates the company’s strong operational performance and future growth potential.
