The Ooni of Ife and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has donated N100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security initiative established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The donation was announced by the Ooni on Tuesday evening when Sunday Igboho and members of the Iru Ekun Security Network paid a courtesy visit to the monarch at his palace in Ile-Ife.
According to a statement issued by Sodiq Lawal, Senior Media Officer at the Ooni’s Palace, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch described the initiative as a timely effort aimed at complementing existing security measures to protect lives and property across Yorubaland.
The Ooni commended Igboho for what he described as his courage, resilience and commitment to the security and collective wellbeing of the Yoruba people.
He noted that genuine leadership is demonstrated through selfless service and practical contributions towards the development and welfare of society.
Ooni Ogunwusi further stressed that every responsible son and daughter of Oduduwa has a role to play in promoting peace, unity and prosperity across Yorubaland.
According to him, security remains a fundamental foundation for sustainable development, adding that the donation goes beyond financial assistance.
The monarch said the gesture reflects his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, communal harmony and the protection of lives and property.
He urged members of the security network to operate within the law and work responsibly with relevant government security agencies to ensure that their activities contribute positively to public safety and community development.
The Ooni also called for greater cooperation among traditional institutions, community leaders, security stakeholders and residents, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to addressing security challenges and creating a safer environment for communities.
