President Bola Tinubu has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 21 people, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were abducted by gunmen in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The President said the victims, made up of eight males and 13 females, were freed during a coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation involving personnel from the military, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.
According to Tinubu, the rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical care before being reunited with their families.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, the President said security forces have continued their pursuit of the kidnappers, assuring that those responsible for the crime would face the full consequences of the law.
He praised the bravery of the security operatives involved in the operation and appreciated the patience and support of the victims’ families throughout the period of uncertainty.
Tinubu also assured Nigerians, particularly the families of the NYSC members, that his administration remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring safer travel across the country.
The victims were reportedly abducted at about 4:40 p.m. on August 26, when armed men emerged from the bush and blocked two vehicles travelling near Ogene Zaria–Onicha-Igo Junction in Ofu Local Government Area. While some passengers managed to escape, others were taken into captivity before their eventual rescue.
