The career journey of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, psc(+), NPM, has come full circle as he returned to Ago-Iwoye Police Division in Ogun State, where he began his service as a Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
The visit marked a return to the place that played a significant role in shaping his policing career, which has progressed from a young officer at the divisional level to his current position as the head of the Nigeria Police Force.
At the Ago-Iwoye Police Division, the IGP revisited his former office, the residence where he once lived during his early years in service, and the farm he cultivated while serving in the area.
The visit provided an opportunity for reflection as Disu recalled the experiences, responsibilities and challenges that accompanied his early days as a police officer.
Standing in the same environment decades later, the Inspector-General reflected on the journey that followed, describing it as one shaped by dedication, discipline, professional development and commitment to duty.
The return also served as an inspiration to young officers and personnel of the Force, reminding them that every successful career begins with humble steps and consistent service.
Disu encouraged officers to value every assignment, noting that each posting provides an opportunity to learn, grow and make meaningful contributions.
During the visit, the IGP posed a reflective question: “Can YOU visit where you worked before?”
The question encouraged officers to remember their beginnings, stay connected to the communities they once served and appreciate the various stages of their professional journeys.
For IGP Disu, Ago-Iwoye remains more than just a former duty post; it represents the foundation of a career that eventually led him to the Force Headquarters in Abuja and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
His return highlighted a key leadership lesson — that every position matters, every responsibility counts and every beginning has the potential to lead to greater achievements.
Decades after leaving Ago-Iwoye as a young DPO, Disu returned to the same station, this time as the Inspector-General of Police, reflecting on a journey built through service, commitment and perseverance.
