Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support groups in Oyo State to strengthen unity within the party as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Tegbe made the call during a series of engagements with APC leaders, members and support groups in Ibadan on Tuesday, where he also highlighted developments in Nigeria’s power sector under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister began the engagements with the APC Reconciliation Committee, led by its Chairman, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin. He commended the committee for its reconciliation efforts following the party’s primaries and pledged to support the process by engaging with aggrieved aspirants and other stakeholders.
Responding, Lanlehin thanked the Minister for his support and said the committee would continue its engagements with aspirants and party stakeholders in a bid to resolve outstanding differences and strengthen cohesion within the party.
Tegbe later visited the APC State Secretariat in Oke-Ado, where he was received by the State Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, and members of the State Executive Committee.
During the meeting, the Minister urged party leaders to ensure that different interests and political tendencies within the APC were accommodated. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the party and its members.
At the Oyo State Secretariat of the Tinubu Support Group in Yemetu, Tegbe met with supporters and party members and urged the groups to take the administration’s policies and programmes to grassroots communities.
He also called on the support groups to mobilise support for President Tinubu and APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
A major part of his message centred on developments in the power sector. Tegbe pointed to recent increases in electricity generation and transmission, saying generation had reached a peak of 5,330 megawatts during August and September, while transmission had remained above 5,000MW in recent weeks.
The Minister said the Federal Government’s focus was to ensure that increased generation and transmission capacity translates into more dependable electricity supply for households, businesses and industries.
Leaders of the various support groups expressed appreciation to Tegbe for his engagement with party members and pledged continued support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Ibadan engagements focused on internal party reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation and the communication of the Federal Government’s programmes and policies as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue.
