Emerging musical talents took centre stage at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), as Fadina Segun Samson, popularly known as SEGZY, won the BIGI Music Competition during Soundcity OnTour 2026.
SEGZY emerged winner ahead of Olawumi David, known as Dayvo, who finished as first runner-up, while Adebayo Moyinoluwa, professionally known as Sourde, secured third place. The competition featured a reported ₦1 million prize pool, providing young artistes with an opportunity to showcase their creativity and gain recognition.
The FUNAAB edition of the entertainment tour ran from October 7 to 9, featuring music performances, dance competitions, games and other interactive activities. The programme concluded with a concert celebrating student creativity and campus entertainment.
Sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited, Soundcity OnTour provides a platform for students to display their talents, engage with audiences and explore opportunities in the entertainment industry.
The regional finals also showcased emerging musical acts from different institutions. Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, popularly known as T.Boss, from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), took first place, while SEGZY of FUNAAB finished second. Alabi David, known professionally as The Vyine, from the University of Ibadan, came third.
Speaking on the initiative, BIGI Brand Manager, Biola Aransiola, emphasised the importance of creating platforms that enable young people to develop and showcase their abilities.
“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses. What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further. Seeing them step up and earn their moment in the spotlight is what makes this initiative worthwhile,” Aransiola said.
Soundcity OnTour has expanded from its debut across 10 campuses in 2023 to a planned reach of 20 institutions, bringing music competitions, dance challenges, interactive activities and live concerts to students across the country.
Through the initiative, Rite Foods seeks to connect with young Nigerians while supporting creativity and talent development. The company produces BIGI Carbonated Soft Drinks, Fearless Energy Drink, BIGI Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink, sausage products and LIDA malt.
Following the conclusion of the FUNAAB competition, the tour is scheduled to move to Kwara State University, where more aspiring artistes will have the opportunity to perform, compete and pursue their musical ambitions.
