The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has rejected the appointment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo as the state coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, calling for an immediate reversal of the decision.
The party’s position was conveyed in a letter dated October 13, 2026, addressed to the Director-General of the PBAT Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
In the letter, the Anambra APC leadership described the appointment of Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as inappropriate, warning that it could undermine the electoral interests of APC candidates in the state.
The letter was signed by Dr. Prince C. N. Ukachukwu, identified as the party’s leader in Anambra State; Senator Emmanuel Anosike, the state chairman; and Sir Obiora Okpala, the state secretary.
While acknowledging the authority of the APC’s national leadership to constitute a campaign council capable of securing Tinubu’s re-election, the party leaders argued that assigning the responsibility to a serving governor from another political party could create conflicting political interests.
They maintained that the Anambra APC had experienced and committed leaders with the grassroots connections and organisational capacity required to coordinate the President’s campaign in the state.
The party reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, stating that its state chapter had set a target of securing more than 80 per cent electoral support for the President in Anambra.
“APC Anambra will mobilise vigorously for President Tinubu and, at the same time, campaign decisively for its own candidates at all legislative levels,” the letter stated.
The leaders expressed concern that Soludo’s position as an APGA governor could complicate efforts to promote APC candidates in the 2027 legislative elections, when both parties are expected to compete for seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Anambra State House of Assembly.
They also questioned the implications of the campaign slogan, “Progressives Are Working Together,” arguing that the proposed political cooperation could benefit APGA candidates at the expense of APC aspirants.
According to the party leaders, APGA candidates in Anambra had not demonstrated sufficient support for Tinubu during their campaigns, raising questions about the decision to entrust Soludo with coordinating the President’s re-election campaign in the state.
The Anambra APC leaders also cited the party’s performance in the November 2025 governorship election, claiming that it secured more than 100,000 votes under Ukachukwu’s leadership and candidacy.
They argued that the result demonstrated the existence of a viable political structure within the state chapter and questioned why none of its leaders had been considered for the campaign coordinator position.
The party warned that the appointment could undermine internal unity, weaken grassroots morale and negatively affect the electoral prospects of its candidates contesting legislative positions in 2027.
It further urged the presidential campaign council to establish clear operational boundaries to ensure that its activities focused on Tinubu’s re-election rather than advancing the legislative ambitions of APGA candidates.
The leaders called on the campaign council to recognise and protect the independent electoral interests of APC candidates seeking election to the three senatorial seats, 11 federal constituencies and 30 state constituencies in Anambra State.
They maintained that the party could support Tinubu’s presidential ambition while simultaneously protecting its candidates’ interests in the state’s legislative contests.
