JMG Limited has called for stronger adherence to quality standards in Nigeria’s energy sector, stressing the importance of safety, reliability and product performance as the country pursues cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.
The company made the call during its participation in the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) 2026 World Standards Day Walk held in Lagos on Saturday, October 17.
Members of JMG’s production team joined the event to promote quality standards and raise awareness of their role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all.
The walk, held under the theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy,” commenced at 7:30 a.m. at the SON Laboratory Complex in Ogba.
The event highlighted the importance of standards in ensuring product safety, improving performance, protecting consumers and supporting industrial development.
According to JMG, expanding energy access must go hand in hand with ensuring that the equipment and systems deployed can deliver dependable performance and meet appropriate quality requirements.
The company noted that solar energy systems, power generation equipment, electrical infrastructure and cooling solutions all require sound engineering, proper installation and consistent quality control to function effectively.
Speaking on the importance of quality assurance, Fouad El Chami, Plant Manager at JMG/Jamara, said standards should be regarded as an essential part of production rather than merely regulatory requirements.
He explained that quality considerations from the beginning of the manufacturing process help ensure that products are safe, reliable and suitable for their intended purposes.
El Chami added that as Nigeria explores opportunities to expand access to cleaner energy, maintaining high-quality standards would help ensure that investments in energy infrastructure deliver lasting value.
He also stressed that affordability should not come at the expense of safety, reliability and performance, noting that equipment supporting the country’s energy needs must meet appropriate quality requirements.
JMG Limited provides integrated electromechanical solutions across several sectors, including power generation, electrical infrastructure, cooling systems, elevators and escalators, and air compressors.
The company’s participation in the annual walk reflects its support for SON’s efforts to strengthen quality consciousness across Nigerian industries and encourage businesses to prioritise dependable products and responsible production practices.
JMG further emphasised the importance of collaboration among manufacturers, service providers and other industry stakeholders in building consumer confidence and supporting sustainable development.
As Nigeria continues to pursue its clean energy objectives, the company maintained that progress should be measured not only by increased access to energy but also by the safety, reliability and performance of the solutions delivering it.
Adherence to strong quality standards, it added, remains an important foundation for building a more dependable and sustainable energy sector.
