The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has organised a 10-kilometre route march to strengthen personnel fitness, discipline and operational readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, flagged off by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, at the Command Headquarters, brought together officers from the headquarters, area commands and divisional offices.

According to a press statement signed by the Corps’ spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the route march commenced at the FCT Command Headquarters and proceeded through Berger, Wuye/Finance Bridge, Zone 3 and Wuse Market before returning to the headquarters.
Odumosu emphasised that regular physical training was essential to maintaining personnel fitness and ensuring effective security operations, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He noted that officers would be expected to support peaceful electoral processes, protect lives and property, and respond effectively to emerging security threats during the election period.
The commandant also highlighted the importance of physical and mental fitness in safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), adding that the exercise was designed to promote teamwork, discipline, mental alertness and high morale among personnel.
According to him, officers must be physically and mentally prepared to confront security challenges and pursue criminals when necessary.

Odumosu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining a high level of operational preparedness, assuring that its personnel remained ready to carry out assigned duties.
“Whatever assignment comes our way, my troops are always in high spirits and will deliver without failure,” he stated.
He described the route march as part of the command’s broader efforts to strengthen its operational capacity, adding that similar exercises would continue to ensure personnel remained physically and mentally fit for their responsibilities.
The commandant further disclosed that the NSCDC FCT Command had intensified security operations across the territory, including round-the-clock patrols aimed at preventing vandalism and curbing other criminal activities.
He added that security operations were being extended beyond the city centre to cover all six area councils of the FCT, with the objective of improving security coverage and ensuring prompt responses to threats.
Odumosu explained that the measures were intended to keep personnel motivated and operationally ready while strengthening public confidence in the Corps.
“All of these activities are to make my personnel fit, motivated and operationally ready to justify public trust and resources,” he said.
The 10-kilometre route march concluded at the Command Headquarters with a series of recreational and fitness activities, including light aerobics, table tennis, tug of war and chair dance.
