Facebook has partnered with Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele to promote Nigerian storytelling and showcase the country’s creative talent to global audiences through her forthcoming film, The Four.
The partnership will support the film’s world premiere in London and its homecoming premiere in Lagos, bringing together filmmakers, digital content creators, celebrities and audiences to celebrate Nigerian cinema and the stories that shape its cultural identity.
The collaboration will also highlight how Facebook enables creators to connect with fans, build communities around shared interests and expand the reach of their original content.
Speaking on the partnership, Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Oluwasola Obagbemi, said the collaboration with Akindele demonstrated the platform’s role in connecting people through film and other cultural experiences.
He noted that creators on Facebook could reach international audiences, establish meaningful relationships with their followers and earn money from original content shared on the platform.
Obagbemi added that the partnership surrounding The Four would celebrate creators influencing culture while supporting more storytellers who produce original and engaging content.
Akindele, whose career spans acting, producing and directing, expressed excitement about the collaboration, describing it as an opportunity to take African stories to wider audiences around the world.
She said African cinema had many compelling stories to share globally and welcomed Facebook’s support in extending their reach beyond national borders.
The partnership will also spotlight Nigerian content creators at home and in the diaspora, providing opportunities to showcase how they use digital platforms to engage younger audiences and promote Nigerian culture internationally.
As part of the initiative, a creator-hosted space at the London and Lagos premieres will capture social media content, offering insights into how creators connect with audiences and build communities around major entertainment events.
Fans will also be able to follow the Meta Africa, Funke Akindele and FAANTV Facebook pages for exclusive updates and behind-the-scenes content from the premieres.
Titled The Four: No One Fights Alone, the film explores themes of friendship, motherhood, resilience, courage and loyalty. Its story follows a woman and her three loyal friends as they confront challenges while fighting to secure the future of a young man they love.
The production features an ensemble cast including Funke Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu and Uzor Arukwe, among other Nigerian entertainers.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 11, 2026.
The partnership underscores the growing role of digital platforms in connecting Nigeria’s entertainment industry with international audiences, while creating new opportunities for filmmakers and content creators to showcase their work.
Through the collaboration, Facebook and Akindele aim to celebrate Nollywood’s global reach and the creators and communities helping Nigerian stories cross borders.
