The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The government urges Muslims to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, which are essential for building a united and prosperous nation. These values, exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, remain vital for fostering unity and progress in the country. The Minister of Interior congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on this occasion, wishing them a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration .
The declaration emphasizes the importance of strengthening bonds of brotherhood, promoting peaceful coexistence, and embracing the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity. Citizens are encouraged to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of government policies aimed at improving national unity and collective well-being. The government also calls on Nigerians of all faiths to use this occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country while supporting initiatives that promote harmony and sustainable development.
