The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four top officials: Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary; Umar Bature, National Organizing Secretary; Kamaldeen Ajibade, National Legal Adviser; and Okechukwu Osuoha, Deputy National Legal Adviser. The suspensions, announced by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, are due to alleged anti-party activities and constitutional violations. The officials have been suspended for one month and referred to the PDP’s National Disciplinary Committee for further action.
During this period, the affected officials will cease to function in their respective capacities. In Anyanwu’s place, Deputy National Secretary Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo will act as National Secretary, while the National Director of Legal Services will oversee the activities of the Department in place of Ajibade and Osuoha. The suspensions come after a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the party’s planned National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15, pending the determination of a suit challenging its conduct.
The PDP had expressed disappointment over the court’s decision, describing it as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process. Despite the court’s ruling, the PDP has vowed to continue preparations for the convention, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision to suspend the officials at an emergency meeting held at the party’s office in Abuja.
