The family of a 20-year-old woman who died after an alleged rape has disclosed that they accumulated more than N7 million in medical expenses while seeking treatment for her before her death.
Faith Agbro, the twin sister of the deceased, Favour, made the revelation during a conversation with the family’s lawyer, Awele Ideal. She explained that when Favour’s health began to deteriorate, the family borrowed money from various sources in a desperate effort to secure the medical care she needed.
According to Faith, despite their efforts, Favour eventually passed away, leaving the family burdened with substantial debts, as those who lent them money have begun demanding repayment.
Faith also revealed that before her death, Favour had reportedly expressed a desire for leniency toward the suspect, citing concern for his twin daughters.
Speaking on the matter, the family’s lawyer, Awele Ideal, alleged that the suspect had presented what she described as “attractive” settlement proposals in an attempt to persuade the family to withdraw the case.
She further stated that the deceased’s father appeared to have shown some compassion toward the suspect, reportedly because of the suspect’s elderly mother. However, the lawyer said she had strongly advised the family against accepting any settlement, maintaining that doing so could undermine the legal proceedings.
The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
