The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, received the Commandant, management team, directing staff, participants and support personnel of the National Defence College (NDC) during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The engagement focused on critical issues including police reform, the proposed state policing framework, command and coordination structures, as well as emerging internal security challenges affecting the country.
The NDC delegation was led by the Commandant, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and comprised senior officers and officials, including Major General K. E. Chigbu, Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies; Air Vice Marshal E. Owai, College Secretary; Prof. A. O. Ahmad, Provost, CSRS; Brigadier General G. Oyinlola; Brigadier General J. M. Chima; Commodore A. N. Umaru; Colonel M. Haribu; Colonel T. O. Samson; Colonel M. I. Ajibike; and Colonel A. A. Abdulhalim.
Also present were police participants from the College, including CP S. A. Afunluhi, DCP S. Yahaya, DCP O. O. Yusuf and DCP I. B. Usang.
During the visit, the Commandant of the National Defence College informed the Inspector-General that the research paper presented by the participants was developed entirely by Police officers undergoing training at the institution.
He explained that while faculty members provided academic guidance and methodological support, the participants relied on their professional experience, critical analysis and research skills to develop strategic recommendations aimed at addressing contemporary security challenges.
According to him, the findings from the study would contribute significantly to ongoing discussions on police reform and support efforts to enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling evolving security concerns towards 2035.
Responding, IGP Disu described the research as timely and relevant to Nigeria’s changing security environment, commending the participants for the depth, quality and practical relevance of their work.
The Inspector-General noted that the study provides valuable insights for developing a workable state policing framework, particularly through its comprehensive assessment of public concerns, sound research approach and lessons drawn from international policing models.
IGP Disu further reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening partnerships with the National Defence College and other strategic stakeholders in promoting effective policing, improved internal security and national development.
