Members of the G6 bloc of governorship aspirants in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dismissed claims by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli that they had abandoned their ambitions and agreed to a reconciliation process ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group described the senator’s comments as premature, insisting that neither its members nor their supporters had withdrawn from the race or altered their position on the party’s governorship contest.
In a statement, the G6 reaffirmed its commitment to the APC, stressing that its members remain loyal to the party and are prepared to support whoever emerges as the consensus candidate endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We are loyal party members and will gladly work for the victory of the APC with whoever President Bola Tinubu chooses as the consensus candidate,” the group stated.
The aspirants, however, maintained that the Oyo APC had yet to produce its governorship candidate, accusing Senator Alli of creating the impression that he had already secured the party’s ticket.
According to the group, the party should adopt a transparent and widely acceptable consensus process capable of producing a candidate who enjoys broad support across the APC in the state.
The G6 further argued that the consensus arrangement should not be driven by personal ambition or propaganda but by a process that reflects the collective interest of party members.
While reaffirming its commitment to the party’s success in the 2027 general elections, the group insisted that its position remains unchanged and called on President Tinubu to facilitate a credible consensus process that would strengthen party unity ahead of the polls.
The aspirants also described the APC in Oyo State as a united political family with a strong electoral base, expressing confidence that internal issues could be resolved through fairness and inclusiveness.
Senator Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District and is seeking the APC governorship ticket, had earlier expressed optimism that reconciliation efforts within the party were yielding positive results.
Speaking during the “A Day With BSA” media interaction organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, in Ibadan, the senator disclosed that one of the G6 members had met with him on Monday and conveyed the group’s willingness to cooperate with ongoing reconciliation efforts.
He also revealed that he recently held discussions in Abuja with another governorship aspirant as part of consultations aimed at fostering unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Alli, he has continued to engage governorship and senatorial aspirants in reconciliation talks, expressing confidence that the APC would resolve its internal disagreements before the next electoral cycle.
“On my part, I have also been going round to reconcile with members, both the governorship and the senatorial. I can tell you this party is going to resolve all that you think is crisis,” Alli said.
