Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week official leave, his first since assuming office in 2023, with a commitment to using the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal.
The leave, which began on Wednesday, was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to a statement issued by the Vice President’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.
The statement explained that Shettima would use the break to review ongoing government initiatives, gain deeper insights into emerging national and global policy developments, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“During the period, Shettima will devote time to study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for continued service to the nation,” the statement said.
The Presidency noted that the Vice President’s leave comes after more than three years of continuous public service since he and President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Since the beginning of the administration, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating several government programmes covering critical areas such as economic development, food security, humanitarian intervention, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
As Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), the Vice President has also worked closely with the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior officials on policies aimed at improving economic stability and enhancing the welfare of Nigerians.
Beyond domestic responsibilities, Shettima has represented Nigeria at various international and regional engagements, advancing discussions around economic cooperation, investment, peace and security, climate action and sustainable development.
The Presidency said the short break would allow the Vice President to return with renewed energy as the administration continues to drive the implementation of its policy objectives.
It reaffirmed Shettima’s commitment to the principles of loyalty, duty and service, noting that he remains dedicated to supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.
According to the statement, the Vice President is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave period with renewed focus and commitment to national service.
