Preparations are underway for the maiden sensitisation workshop organised by The Press Society (TPS), aimed at equipping media practitioners, students and communication professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the rapidly changing media landscape in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
The workshop is scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme, “Balancing Creativity and Ethics in the Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
As part of its preparations for the event, TPS has unveiled three distinguished media professionals who will serve as resource persons and lead discussions on artificial intelligence, journalism, ethics, professional development and the future of the media industry.
Three Media Experts to Lead Discussions
Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), will facilitate a session titled, “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Smarter Journalism.”
Her presentation will examine the practical application of AI tools in research, news gathering, content development, verification and newsroom productivity, while highlighting the importance of human judgment and editorial oversight in journalism.
Lekan Otufodurin, Executive Director of Media Career Network, will speak on “Ethics, Credibility and Public Trust in the AI Era.”
His session will focus on issues including accuracy, fairness, accountability, misinformation, deepfakes, copyright, plagiarism and transparency, with emphasis on the need for journalists to preserve public trust as AI increasingly shapes the information ecosystem.
The third resource person, Comrade Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC), will address the topic, “Future-Proofing Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
His presentation will explore emerging skills, career development, innovation, entrepreneurship and personal branding, while examining ways media professionals can remain relevant in a rapidly evolving industry without compromising professional standards.
According to TPS, the workshop is designed to go beyond discussions about technology by helping participants understand how AI can be responsibly integrated into journalism while maintaining professional ethics, credibility and public trust.
The organisers said the programme is targeted at media practitioners, experienced and retired journalists, students and communication professionals. Participants are expected to benefit from expert presentations, practical discussions, interactive sessions and networking opportunities.
The initiative is also part of TPS’s broader commitment to promoting ethical journalism and strengthening community voices, particularly at a time when artificial intelligence is transforming how news is researched, produced, distributed and consumed.
With preparations already in progress and the resource persons unveiled, TPS is inviting media practitioners, prospective participants, institutions, corporate organisations and potential sponsors to support the initiative and contribute to efforts aimed at building a responsible, innovative and future-ready media sector.
