Nigerians consumed more than 1.53 million terabytes of data in June 2026, reflecting the continued growth in internet usage and digital activity across the country.
According to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), total internet data consumption stood at 1,532,172.67 terabytes during the month, up from 1,504,067.36 terabytes recorded in May.
The latest figure represents another monthly increase in data consumption, highlighting the growing dependence of Nigerians on mobile and internet services for communication, business, education, entertainment and other digital activities.
Data usage had stood at 1.385 million terabytes in January before rising to 1.260 million terabytes in February and 1.423 million terabytes in March. Consumption increased further to about 1.415 million terabytes in April and 1.504 million terabytes in May.
The June figure also represents a significant increase compared with the same month in 2025, when Nigerians consumed about 1.044 million terabytes, according to NCC statistics.
The steady rise in consumption points to the expanding role of digital connectivity in everyday life, with more Nigerians relying on internet-enabled services for work, learning, commerce, financial transactions, social interaction and access to information.
The development also underscores the growing importance of telecommunications infrastructure as demand for faster and more reliable internet services continues to increase.
Meanwhile, the NCC reported 156.45 million active mobile GSM internet subscribers in June 2026, further highlighting the scale of Nigeria’s digital market.
As data consumption continues to rise, industry stakeholders are expected to face increasing pressure to expand network capacity, improve service quality and make digital connectivity more accessible and affordable to Nigerians.
The latest figures reinforce Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s major digital markets and highlight the increasing economic and social importance of internet connectivity across the country.
