President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.
The Presidency disclosed the development on Sunday through a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, Tinubu’s first destination is London, United Kingdom, although details of his full itinerary during the vacation were not disclosed.
The Presidency described the trip as a working vacation, with Tinubu expected to return to Nigeria after the three-week break.
Onanuga said the President would return to the country to join campaign activities ahead of the January 2027 general elections, as political activities intensify across the country.
The President’s departure comes shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima resumed official duties following his approved leave.
Shettima had commenced his leave on August 6 and returned to Nigeria ahead of his scheduled resumption date. His spokesperson had said the period was intended to provide an opportunity for study, reflection and intellectual renewal.
Tinubu’s latest vacation is his third annual leave since assuming office in May 2023. He previously embarked on annual leave in October 2024 and September 2025, with both trips described by the Presidency as working vacations.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the three-week vacation and resume his official engagements as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
