Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Titi Laoye-Ponnle, has declined her nomination by Governor Ademola Adeleke to serve on the Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
Her decision was disclosed by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a courtesy visit to Governor Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo on Sunday.
Basiru explained that Laoye-Ponnle was expected to accompany him on the visit to personally communicate her decision to the governor but was unable to attend.
According to the APC national secretary, the former deputy governor declined the appointment because she is currently serving as the chairman of the governing council of a federal institution.
Basiru said Laoye-Ponnle made it clear that her decision was not due to a lack of capacity to serve, but rather because of her existing responsibility at the federal institution.
He added that the former deputy governor appreciated Governor Adeleke for considering her for the appointment and expressed her willingness to contribute to the development of Osun State whenever another opportunity arises.
The development followed Governor Adeleke’s decision to dissolve the existing Governing Council of UNIOSUN and constitute a new council as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and governance of the institution.
The newly constituted council is headed by Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, while other members include Gbadegesin Lawal, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Funminiyi Awotade, Orija Samuel Adebayo and Adewale Adetayo Bola.
Laoye-Ponnle was also listed among the newly appointed members despite her decision to decline the nomination.
Governor Adeleke charged the new council members to build on the achievements of the university and provide the necessary support for its continued academic and institutional development.
The newly appointed council members were subsequently inaugurated by the governor at the Government House in Osogbo.
