The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent incident involving alleged criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and culpable homicide in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on September 4, 2026, reportedly began around 6:00 p.m. when a 29-year-old tricycle operator from the Bundot area of Dass was allegedly attacked by a group of individuals at Tudun Wus area.
According to the police, the victim was assaulted with cutlasses and sustained severe injuries before he was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The command said officers from the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded to the report and moved to the scene, where personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had already taken custody of the tricycle and one suspect.
Following the incident, tension reportedly heightened in the area as youths from Bundot allegedly mobilised and moved to the Bayan Fada community in what appeared to be a reprisal action.
The police said the confrontation between the two groups, which occurred near Dass Central Motor Park, led to the stabbing of a 38-year-old man from Bayan Fada. The victim was taken to the General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead.
The command said detectives have since restored calm in the area and arrested seven suspects linked to the violence. Those arrested include Umar Abubakar, 20, identified as the principal suspect, as well as Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18.
The police added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be involved in the incident.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
He urged residents of Dass to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid taking the law into their own hands, assuring that justice would be served.
