Oladapo Taiwo Opeyemi has emerged winner of the Bigi Music Competition at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) edition of Soundcity OnTour, following a keenly contested musical showcase.
Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, was transformed into a hub of music, dance and entertainment as the YABATECH edition of Soundcity OnTour ended on a high note.
The three-day campus activation, which began on September 15, featured a blend of musical performances, talent showcases and entertainment activities, with the Bigi Music Competition serving as one of the major highlights.
Emerging artistes competed for the campus title, with a ₦1 million cash prize and an opportunity to showcase their talent on a bigger platform at stake.
At the end of the competition, Opeyemi secured the top position, while Iheanacho Favour Emeka emerged first runner-up and Anikene Victor Chidera finished as second runner-up.
The event also featured the Fearless Dance Challenge, which saw students display their creativity and dance skills as they competed before an enthusiastic audience.
The entertainment continued with performances from Modola, Táríq, Syemca, Slimcase, Mr P and Kodee, alongside Duuwa and Rukmani, keeping students engaged throughout the concert.
Beyond the entertainment, the activation provided a platform for young Nigerians to express their creativity, showcase their talents and gain exposure to opportunities.
Speaking on the initiative, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Rite Foods Limited, said the Bigi and Fearless brands were focused on providing platforms that enable young people to express themselves and explore their abilities.
“Young people are not waiting for culture to happen; they are creating it every day. Through the Bigi and Fearless brands, we want to meet them where that creativity is most visible and give them platforms where they can express themselves, discover their capabilities and connect with opportunities beyond the immediate moment,” he said.
The YABATECH edition of Soundcity OnTour ultimately combined music, dance and talent discovery, giving students an opportunity to participate in an experience centred on creativity and youthful expression.
For Opeyemi and the other finalists, the competition provided an avenue to showcase their abilities, while the wider campus audience experienced a day of music, performances and entertainment.
With the YABATECH stop now concluded, the Soundcity OnTour journey continues to other campuses, bringing more music, talent competitions, challenges and opportunities to young Nigerians.
