JMG Limited has hosted engineering students from the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Yaba College of Technology Chapter, for a factory visit aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical industrial experience.
The visit, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, provided the students with an opportunity to observe industrial operations and understand how engineering principles are applied in real-world working environments.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and industry in preparing aspiring engineers for professional practice.
Among those who participated was Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at Yaba College of Technology, who previously worked with JMG. His experience in both academia and industry offered valuable insight into the relationship between engineering education and workplace demands.
Speaking on the importance of industrial exposure, Isiaq said such experiences help students understand the connection between classroom instruction and practical engineering applications, while providing a clearer perspective on the technical knowledge and skills required in their chosen profession.
JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions across several sectors, including power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), solar energy and industrial applications. Its operations provide students with practical insight into how engineering systems support industrial and commercial activities.
Commenting on the initiative, Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG Limited, said the company recognises the importance of providing young engineers with opportunities to understand how academic knowledge translates into practical applications.
Faniran noted that engagements between industry and educational institutions help students gain a better understanding of industrial technologies and the role of engineering in addressing everyday business and operational needs.
She added that closer collaboration between industry and academic institutions is valuable in preparing students for the realities of professional practice.
For the visiting students, the factory tour offered an opportunity to connect their academic training with real-world applications and gain a broader understanding of the technical considerations involved in industrial operations.
Such exposure can complement classroom instruction by helping students appreciate how theoretical concepts are used to solve practical problems and support industrial development.
The visit also underscored the importance of industry-academia partnerships in strengthening technical education and equipping future engineers with relevant knowledge of professional environments.
For JMG, hosting the students reflects its commitment to encouraging engagement with aspiring engineers and promoting stronger links between technical education and industry.
The experience is expected to broaden the students’ understanding of engineering practice as they continue their studies and prepare to contribute to Nigeria’s industrial and technological development.
