The Ogun State Police Command has warned unauthorized transport unions operating in the state to cease their activities immediately, threatening sanctions against those who fail to comply. According to the police, only eight transport unions are authorized to operate and collect revenue within the public transport sector in Ogun State.
The recognized unions include Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which are allowed to operate buses and taxis in collaboration with Ogun Stations Operation Management Services (OSOMS) and Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM). For motorcycle taxis (Okada), the authorized unions are Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Articulated Motorcycle and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), and Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO).
Additionally, for tricycle taxis (Keke Napep), the recognized unions are Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organization (ROTO), Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN), and Three Wheelers Operators and Riders Association (TWORA). The police command stated that any group or individual operating outside these authorized bodies would be treated as engaging in unlawful activity and posing a threat to public safety, and would face immediate enforcement action, including arrest and prosecution.
The warning follows a communiqué issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation on July 8, 2025, outlining recognized unions and organizations permitted to operate in the state. The police command emphasized that the action is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in the state.
The police command’s warning has sent a strong message to unauthorized transport unions, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. However, the command’s determination to enforce the law and maintain order is clear, and residents and transport operators alike are advised to take note of the new directives.
