Sean Kingston, the singer behind hits like “Beautiful Girls” and “Fire Burning,” has been sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison for his role in a $1 million wire fraud scheme. Kingston, born Kisean Paul Anderson, received a 42-month sentence in Southern Florida on August 15, 2025, and was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
The fraud scheme involved Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, falsely claiming to have paid for luxury goods, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, pricey watches, and a large LED TV. They used fake wire transfer receipts to trick sellers into handing over the goods without receiving payment. The scheme netted them over $1 million worth of goods.
Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, was sentenced to five years in prison for her involvement in the scheme. Turner’s legal team has filed an appeal. Both Kingston and Turner were convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud in March 2025, after a five-day trial.
Kingston will serve 42 months in federal prison, followed by 36 months of supervised release. During this time, he’ll be required to avoid unlawful drug use, submit DNA samples, maintain lawful employment, and allow unannounced visits from his probation officer. Kingston must also repay his victims, with a hearing scheduled for October 16, 2025, to discuss repayment details.
Kingston’s lawyers had requested a shorter sentence, citing his clean record and community service. However, the judge imposed the 42-month term, considering the severity of the crime and the need for Kingston to take responsibility for his actions. Kingston has been ordered to pay restitution to the victims, and his lawyers have requested home confinement to allow him to earn income through music and pay back the victims.
